What is an algorithm?
To make a computer do anything, you have to write a computer program. To write a computer program, you have to tell the computer, step by step, exactly what you want it to do. The computer then "executes" the program, following each step mechanically, to accomplish the end goal.
Where does the word come from?
Algorithm stems from 'Algoritmi', the historic translation of Abū ʿAbdallāh Muḥammad ibn Mūsā al-Khwārizmī, a Muslim Persian[11][12]mathematician, astronomer and geographer.
Just like industrialization transformed agriculture and manufacturing in the 20th century, cognitive algorithms will drive the next evolution in business in the 21st century.
